General Information

Q: When and where is 2018 NAfME Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference?
March 22-24, 2018 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel, Atlanta, GA

 Q: Who should attend the 2018 NAfME Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference?
The purpose of the Music Research & Teacher Education Conference is to provide a forum for music education researchers (SRME or SRME-SRIGs), music teacher educators (SMTE), music program leaders/music administrators/curriculum specialists (CMPL), and all interested NAfME members to consider current research and pedagogical innovations that will shape the future of the profession.

 Q: Why should I attend?
This conference provides attendees with opportunities to convene in a stimulating environment surrounded by the latest research, innovations, and discussion of issues shaping the future of music education.

 Q: What can I do in my free time in Atlanta?

 Q: What restaurants are near the hotel? 

The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta is just steps away quick bites and trendy dining. The Peachtree Center offers a variety of quick food choices within walking distance as well as shopping. Also view other dining options in the Atlanta area.  

 

Registration Information

Q: What are the registration fees; are there any discounts?
All registration rates are listed on the rates page; pre-registration rates are offered until January 14, 2018. Don’t wait! 

**If you are a potential presenter (primary or co-author),  please do not register until you receive notice of acceptance. Primary presenters will be notified by December 4, 2017 of proposal status and must advise all other co-authors. All accepted presenters will need to register by December 18, 2017 as confirmation of presenting.  (Presenter rates are the same as attendees and presenters must be NAfME members.) 

 Q: What does my registration fee include?
Full conference registrations includes the General Session and Keynote Panel Address, the welcome reception, the Senior Researcher Award presentation, and all research poster sessions and presentations.

Q: May I bring a guest? If so how can I register my guest? Guest registration is $50 each with a limit of two guests per  registered member and can be purchased at the time of online registration. A guest pass includes access to all Poster Sessions and Thursday’s General Session, Keynote Panel Address, and Welcome reception. Guests must be non-music educators.

 Q: Where and when is registration?
Registration is located in Chastain A, sixth floor.   Hours of Operation are Thursday and Friday 7:00 am-5:00 pm; and Saturday 7:00 am-10:00 am.

 Q: What is the registration cancellation/refund policy?
You can cancel your registration and receive a full refund up to 2 weeks prior to the conference.

Session Information

Q: What is the dress code for the meeting?
We want you to relax and be comfortable – so whatever you are comfortable in is what you should wear! (Within reason, of course)

 Q: What is the expected attendance?
The 2016 research and music teacher education-focused conference had more than 650 attendees.

 

Travel/Hotel

Q: When should I arrive and depart from NAfME Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference??
We suggest attendees arrive a day prior to the beginning of the conference.  The conference opens on Thursday, March 22, 8:00 am, and closes early afternoon of Saturday, March 24.

 Q: How do I get to and from the airport?

 Q: Where do I make my hotel reservation?
Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel: Call 1-404-659-1400. Please advise the hotel that you are an NAfME member and ask for the NAfME room block rate.  

 Q: What is the hotel cancellation policy?
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made within 72 hours of arrival will forfeit one night’s room and tax.

 Q: Does the facility offer complimentary Wi-Fi?
If you are a staying at the Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel, internet is included in the room rate and it will work in your guest room. Complimentary Wi-Fi will be available in the meeting rooms.
